It is a good thing to do as much research as you can on the Internet. This will help you get some idea of what properties are on offer and the price differentials between different areas.
It is a bad thing to get hung up on one property or just one agent before you travel. The truth is that you will probably have only a limited time in Bulgaria and you need to have as many options open to you as possible. Although we have done everything in four days from the client landing at the Airport to flying home again, we do not like it because there is a lot to see, long distances to travel (you might see anything up to 6 or 7 properties in one day) and a lot to do.
The viewing process is arduous and even more so in very cold or very hot weather. You may think you remember each property you see but, after the third or fourth viewing, believe us – the properties tend to merge in the mind. We once had a client for whom the best features of three different houses merged in his mind to the point where he was convinced that the “one he remembered” was the perfect one to buy. We had to take him back to “it” to show him!
Don’t create pressure on yourself by allocating too little time. You are making a serious decision and this deserves serious time and thought. Don’t allow yourself to be pressured by others. If you have selected only one agent they will be with you morning, noon and evenings, being incredibly friendly and trying to make sure you don’t escape!
Finally, be prepared to go home without having bought. Many people think that they must buy something to justify the expense of the journey or to tell the friends they told of their impending trip that they had indeed bought something.
Always leave enough time so that, before you commit yourself to buying, you can arrange for those vital things which you would normally do back home but which so often get lost in the final rush to the finishing line.
